As a result of the holiday traffic chaos throughout the state, visitors have been pouring into the hill station to enjoy Christmas and New Year’s. In the midst of the chaos, a Mahindra Thar driver decided to take a clever detour and drive his SUV over the river.
Because the water level was not very deep, the SUV was able to cross the Chandra River with little difficulty. The act, however, did not sit well with the locals after the video went viral.
The police issued a challan to the motorist after viewing the video. A video of a Thar crossing the Chandra River in Lahaul Spiti District recently went viral. “The said vehicle has been challenged under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988,” stated Mayank Chaudhry, superintendent of police, “and the district police have deployed police personnel at the said place to ensure that no one commits such an offence in the future.”
Meanwhile, roads connecting numerous tourist locations in Himachal Pradesh are experiencing significant traffic congestion as a large number of visitors arrive to spend Christmas and New Year. The police in the Lahaul and Spiti area used drone surveillance to monitor the traffic condition in the region, and the video footage shows vehicle trails clogging the roadways, leaving little room for parking facilities.
Several people engaged in unsafe driving stunts in the midst of the traffic jam, generating a nuisance. On social media, a video of a man driving his automobile with the doors open went viral. The driver was spotted hanging perilously from one of the doors. The Kullu police department took notice of the footage and levied a ₹3,500 fine.

Hemachal Pradesh’s gridlock in traffic
The Christmas and New Year vacations are causing a spike in the number of tourists visiting Himachal Pradesh. Due to this, there is a great deal of traffic congestion on the highways that connect numerous well-known tourist locations. Drone footage demonstrates how severely devastated the Lahaul and Spiti region is.
Risky driving manoeuvres
Along with the traffic jams, there have also been tales of visitors pulling off a number of risky driving manoeuvres. A man was driving his automobile with the doors open and hanging perilously from one of them in a video that went viral. The driver was fined ₹3,500 by the Kullu police department for his careless actions.
The perils of across rivers by car
Even for SUVs like the Mahindra Thar, driving across a river is very risky. There’s always the chance of getting swept away because the water can be deceptively deep and swift moving. Furthermore, crossing rivers by car might harm the ecosystem and annoy wildlife.
