Google Maps now lets you share your location with your friends like WhatsApp on mobile: How it works

In addition to WhatsApp, Maps now allows you to share your live location with your friends and family via your phone with additional information.

WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps in the world, with millions of people using it every day. But what makes it so popular isn’t just because it’s a chat app. It’s also a messaging app that lets you send files, send payments, and share live locations with your friends and family.

Google is introducing a similar feature to Whatsapp called Maps for its users. This feature will allow you to share more granular information about your phone’s battery status, as well as the user’s real-time location.

The feature is now available for Maps users on iOS and Android. All you need to do is turn on the share location option on your Google Account for Maps.

SHARE LIVE LOCATION WITH FRIENDS ON MAPS: HOW IT WORKS

  • Open Google Maps on your Android/iOS device
  • Tap on the profile icon on the top-right
  • Click on Location sharing option
  • Enable share location button to get started
  • Now you will see your real-time position on the Maps
  • Maps will also show your phone’s current battery status
  • Now you can share real-time location with friends or family for different time limits
  • You can manually choose how many one hours you want to share location
  • Or your location will be shared until you turn this off

For those who would like to share the location link in real-time, Maps is now allowing you to do so via Messages, Chrome, Bluetooth or even WhatsApp.

Google is rolling out a number of updates to Maps over the past few weeks. The first major update is to update Maps’ colour tone, which, according to Google, has been evolving over the years.

In addition, you will also be able to see new cities in street view, as well as being able to walk-assist in India. Additionally, you will be able to save fuel by choosing the most fuel-efficient route for your journey by car or 2-wheeler in Maps.

These features will be made available to Maps users across India in various updates in the calendar year 2024.
