Ricky White’s college football journey isn’t over yet.
A native of Georgia, White made a name for himself during his freshman year at Michigan State, where he caught eight passes for 198 yards and one score in a win over Michigan State in 2020.
On Tuesday, White announced that he will be returning for his senior season at UNLV, according to a report from the Las Vegas Sun.
The news came during media day leading up to Tuesday’s Guaranteed Rate Bowl.
“I’m definitely going to be here for another year,” White said. “I want to continue to grow here. I’ve got a great quarterback and great coaches to help me out, plus a great team. I’m going to stay here and continue to grow and show what the scouts want to see.”
White, a four-star high school recruit, was virtually a one-year wonder at East Lansing, catching just one pass (a 22-yarder in the season opener at Ann Arbor) before sitting out the rest of 2020. He then missed the entire 2021 season amid speculation before returning to Las Vegas in 2022 and leading the team in receiving the following year. White burst onto the scene in 2023, setting the program’s 42-year old single-season receiving yard record of 1,386.
He also had 81 receptions for 1,071 yards and 7 touchdowns and is projected to be a top-five wide receiver in the nation in 2024.
Most NFL draft analysts project White, who stands at 6-1, 190 pounds, to be a Day 3 selection (Rounds 4 to 7) if he declares for the 2024 draft, and he’ll be looking to boost his stock next season and in the Rebels’ bowl game.
UNLV will host Kansas in the 21st annual Guaranteed Rate Bowl at 9 p.m. in Phoenix. UNLV kicks off its 2024 season against Houston on August 31.
