KJo disclosed in the episode that he had proposed to Sharmila to play Alia Bhatt’s grandma. Shabana Azmi finally took on the role of the character. “I proposed that Sharmila ji be cast in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani as Shabana Azmi’s role. My initial pick was her. She was unable to respond affirmatively at the time due to health issues, but Karan regretted it.

Sharmila stated, “This is at the height of Covid,” while discussing the offer and the reason she turned it down. At the time, they hadn’t actually dealt with Covid. They were unaware about the immunization. We received no vaccinations. Following my cancer, you know. They therefore opposed me taking that chance. Sharmila has never before discussed her fight with cancer.
