According to the Met Office, snow is expected in parts of Essex tomorrow.

Monday morning (January 8) is expected to bring heavy snowfall to parts of Essex, according to the Met Office. The forecasters predict that several parts of the county will experience snow on the ground on Monday morning.

The Met Office predicts that large areas of Essex will experience snow on Monday morning, with some areas expected to experience ‘heavy snow’.

In Chelmsford, snow is expected to fall between 9 am and 10 am, while in Colchester, snow is likely to fall during a 4 hour period from 6 am to 10 am. The clouds will stick around for the rest of Monday.

In Southend, sleet is expected at 3am, 5am and 6am, changing to light snow by 6am. According to the Met Office, ‘heavy snow’ is expected at 9am in Southend, which will then change to light snow, sleet and snow intermittently until the evening’s time.

The news comes at a time when the Met Office has maintained a yellow cold alert for Essex and the UK Health Security Agency (HSA) has warned that there could be “potential knock-on effects” for health and social care services as a result of the weather.

HSA have warned of an increase in the need for remote health care and an increased risk for vulnerable people. They have also warned that keeping an indoor temperature of 18C “may become difficult for some”.

Met Office meteorologist, Marco Petagna, said: “It’s going to be a chilly start to Monday morning, with frost and fog across the North and West. The fog will lift as we move through the morning, but those showers down towards the south east could make for a difficult commute for some in the south east of England.”

“There are also some ice flurries and a mixture of snow, rain and sleet in some areas. The showers will move west across southern parts of England, changing over to rain later in the day.”

Dan Holley, presenting BBC Look East’s weekend and early week weather forecast, said: “You’ll need to pack it in as we move into next week as high pressure takes over but this eastward flow is bringing in some cold air from the North Sea.”

The warmest day of the week is likely to be Tuesday. Monday is expected to be cloudy and cold with a strong wind. From Wednesday, we may see more cloud and foggy showers.
